Below you will find answers to commonly asked questions to help address any uncertainties or doubts. We strive to be transparent to ensure that you understand our clinic and the services we offer.
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and ligaments that support the bladder, uterus, and bowel. It helps control bladder and bowel function, provides stability for the trunk and extremities, and is important for sexual function.
Under Florida’s direct access law, a person can be seen for physical therapy treatment for 30 days. After 30 days, a referral from a primary care provider or OB-GYN will be required to continue care.
Like a traditional physical therapy evaluation, we will take a comprehensive history, including your symptoms, concerns, and goals. After your history is taken, an assessment of your posture, core and lower body strength, range of motion, breathing mechanics, pelvic alignment, and pelvic floor muscles will be completed. An internal vaginal exam using one gloved finger is the gold standard for assessing function, muscle tone, and pelvic floor strength. However, this assessment is only completed with your permission and consent. If you are not comfortable initially, there are external techniques that we can use for assessment purposes. We value privacy and comfort; therefore, every session is one on one.
We understand that the unexpected may happen and children may get sick. We ask that you try to contact us via phone, email, or the patient portal to notify us of any change. We require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice will be charged 50% of the visit fee to the card on file. If an appointment is missed without a reschedule, the patient will be charged the full visit amount to the card on file.
EmpowerHer Health Physical Therapy is a small, fee-for-service clinic that collects payment at the time of service (cash, debit/credit card, check, flexible savings account and health savings accounts). We do not bill insurance; however, we do provide superbills that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you are interested in knowing your potential level of reimbursement for our services, please call your insurance provider and inquire about their coverage for “out of network physical therapy.”
By being an out-of-network provider, we are not constrained to what insurance companies will allow and can provide a level of care that is right for you. We understand and are sensitive to the fact that our services require an upfront charge for sessions and want to offer the following reasons if cost is a deciding factor for your care:
Can potentially help you avoid surgery for conditions like pelvic organ prolapse, severe incontinence, or chronic pain which can save you money in the future
